i do the six speed
Wow minimum $10k, Mike that is not true i don't know what price they are going by maybe BNIB V160 from Toyota you still get it around $5800.00
Used one go anywhere from $2200.00-$3800.00 depending on the miles and condition, if you can do the labor yourself and source you own parts you can do it for half that price maybe $5500.00.
Driveshaft depending on where you go it's anywhere from $350-$900
Stock flywheel and RPS clutch $750-$900
6 speed left side axle if you go with 6 speed diff.
Shifter, housing and bracket $250.00
V160 fluid (2) quarts $98
6 speed diff if you have enough money left $900-$1200
Or TRD auto LSD in the GS400 diff that may even be cheaper.
I learned from my mistake yes you can rebuild it your R but you will get to the point where you will start to hate your car because it's not reliable, breaking tranny and clutches left and right trust me i have been down that road before and it was just a waste of money and time.i used to pull my tranny out almost every friday it's either trans seal or broken Pressure Plate.and i refuse to pay for a clutch that cost more than my trans and can hold more TQ than my trans can ,hell i even order OS Giken triple for my R154 from HPF but end up cancelling the SO (Special Order).
Sit down and thinking the future not today but 2 years from now what king power you wanna be making and make your decision base on that answer don't waste your money and time like some of US.
GL with whatever route you decide to go.
Some may think i am hating on the r154! i am not i am just telling the truth.

and for a good clutch atc fly wheel and clutch kit 1100... and to put it in is just time and labor you do it your self .. so if you found one cheap the 2200 plus the 1100 your in it for 3300 and your time and labor i paid 3100 for my six speed.
i have heard way too many horor storys about the r154 and having to fix it all the time and being out of your car and not being able to drive and enjoy it ,and spending money on a r154 then adding all the marlin crawler parts and a clutch to handle the horse power and a bell housing to fit . also if you dont find a solaira (spelling)one you have to buy more parts to extend the shifter or hack it up and weld peices in to extend it .... buy time you do all that might as well get the six speed .. cost lill more in begining but in long run you will drive your car alot more and enjoy it...you pay for dependability and you pay to play... main reason i bite the bullet and got the six speed to begin with,i was looking for a r154 when i started researching and found all kinds of peole having major issues with them . and researched the six speed and couldnt find hardly any maybe a handful of problems and most of those where clutch issues , not being installed correctly , or on some years you have to cut or make room in tunnel for it to fit corect . so shifter will allow for it to be able to shift into all gears.
you will still need a drive shaft made
the oil can be had cheaper than that like 36 dollars a quart takes two just have go right stealership umm i mean dealer ship....
the lsd can come later if you cant afford it but the gs 400 (may or may not have lds in allready )rear is cheap got mine from aliga on here 180 bucks think.so that ten grand is a far strech... for a price..
thats just crazzzy price

Update, found myself buying a rebuilt soarer R154, but has a modified shifter assembly which is pretty much useless. So, im on the search for a very rare shifter assembly which i doubt i will find anytime soon....

Wow! Forgot about this thread.. Well, I finally got the Soarer Transmission (Last Gen r154) fully rebuilt w/ everything new adding MC parts. Also, decided to put my OS Giken twin disk clutch in, that i had lying around; I also had find myself buying a TRD short shifter from Japan. So far, it cost me a arm and a leg just resourcing parts... but hopefully this thing last compared to my other transmission i had in the past.

Here is a pic of the car recently... Didn't see the car for almost 3 months...
For those who plan to rebuild a 2nd gen R154 good luck! finding parts here took forever...
