Default R154 Wot 4th wont engage

Hey guys...

I jus recently did my R154 swap on my Sc300 after breaking 2 W58's...So far the car runs great, the tranny shifts into every gearwhen jus cruising even when I do WOT pulls and I granny shift the car goes into every gear.

But I seem to be having some issues WOT and banging the gear into 4th, doesnt wanna seem to go in. I put about 2.5qts of 75w90 gear oil in it but a friend of mine spilled some aswell so im guessing it doesnt have 2.5 qts in there...

Will not enough Gear Oil cause my R154 to not go into 4th gear at WOT when bangin gears?? Clearly my 4th gear works fine because when im driving normal its there...Im guessing its doing this because i dont have enough gear oil in the tranny.

Since im putting more of a Load on the motor it needs the fluid to get the syncros into the gear, correct?? hints to why it wont go into 4th at WOT but with a smaller load it uses less fluid n can go into 4th no problem..

I am goin to add more fluid & make sure its full but I jus wanted to get some Feedback aswell

Are you sure the clutch is disengaging all the way?

Dragging the clutch can make it hard to go into gear.

x2

find a level surface (large empty parking lot) put it in first gear with the clutch pedal to the floor and hold it, rev the engine to red line. The car should not creep forward if it does your clutch is dragging.

Oh well if that's the case then the answer is no the clutch isn't dragging... I'm sure its probably the fluid, cuz I can engage it into 4th when cruising or wot wit granny shifting.

nate , 2 things , fill fluid till it runs out fill port ( you need to be able to pump the oil in thru fill port )i also recommend using redline mt 90 its got the right stuff in there to protect syncros against shock

alos are you still using the 4.27 rear for that short of a gear will affect your ability to do a wot pull and shift .. r154 was designed to lock you out if rpms are to high to shift into that gear..

The Trans final ratio is not affected by Rear Ratio.

Hey Ed, yes you are correct redline mt90 is the best gear oil, o will use this oil, the only reason I didn't use it was because I have to order it or buy it online, no one local sells it & I didn't ha e time to order it..

Also I am no longer on the 4.27 rearend, I have the Toyota soarer torsen rearend ow and to my knowledge they are all 4.10 gear

So does it grind, or just hit a wall and not go any further?

I'm with Ali. If it were a synchro it would want to grind, or at least crunch. Hitting a wall sounds like linkage/shifter mechanism. When you try to downshift to a lower gear at too high a speed, you can get the brick wall effect and the synchro works its tail off trying to bring rotating components up to speed.

Do you think you may be missing 4th and trying to grab 2nd instead? I kinda doubt it, but I have seen it happen, and if you have an aftermarket shifter on an unfamiliar trans, maybe you are just missing?
