Noise in the engine bay
#31
Here are the prices that I have received
Lexus - $49
Napa auto parts $5.50
Local auto parts $10
autozone - does not carry it
R&S strauss - does not carry it
none automotive machine shop - $7.50
local ATV(All terrain Vehicle) shop - $15
I bought mine from a local auto shop since it was only 1 block away from my bank (I was going there) and napa was 18 miles away.
So if your mechanic ordered the bearing from a Lexus dealer he would have paid 40-50 bucks and the rest is labor.
I am mechanically DECLINED but I managed to do it in about 15 minutes.
Tools needed (whatever i used)
14mm socket and ratchet (to loosen and tighten the center bolt)
rubber mallet (to drive in the new bearing)
hammer (to drive out the old bearing)
28mm socket (to drive out the old bearing)
1 rag ( to clean out the gunk on the pulley)

Hey guys,
Please ignore the part number I mentioned in my previous post, I typed too fast and made a mistake. The correct parts number of that bearing is 6301, made by NSK. This goes in the other smaller idler pulley located right above the hydraulic pump pulley. It is easy to press out and replace if you think that is the cause of the noise. Hope this helps.

I'm still confused
The drive belt tensioner should move down, then remove the belt? or remove the drive belt first, then you push the belt tensioner?
somehow I cant push the belt tensioner.
I used Emerald's picture on https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...threadid=54809 but it doesn't seem to move down.
any idea?

If you use a ratchet wrench with a 14 mm socket on the center bolt and turn it counter-clockwise that will relieve the tension on the belt and you can then remove it. Do the same to reinstall it.

I cant loosen the belt. I tried so many time but it seems so tight.
Am I missing something? I already bought a bearing.
Should I apply some lubricant on the tensioner?

Finally i was able to remove the pulley, thank you all.
But the bearing inside the pulley does not come out easily. I used the hammer but the thing doesn't even move. I'll try to figure out tonight.
update: it's all done, thank you guys.

After changing one of them, the noise is still there. Maybe I'll replace the drive belt. what do you think?

Just curious guys, but anyone here remember what the mileages were on your cars when you first started noticing the bearing noises? I don't have this problem yet, but I want to be ready for it if/when it occurs. Thanks
