did anybody ever take it to the dealer to get it done? and what will happen if we continue to drive it? Is this a major problem? Want to go home but don't want to risk the car crapping out half way home.

to those of you that replaced the bearing in the idler pulley, the stock bearing is 15mm wide, and the replacement is 12mm wide....what problems did you run into with this? or were you able to find a bearing that was 15mm wide? my first thought was to put some washers in there, but thats a little too redneck to do on a lexus.

I got this noise from the engine bay as well, but before I go and change all of the belt just because of this sound, its annoying me and making me paranoid.

What parts need to be replaced? I've read the bearing but one person said the whole pulley.

That's strange, because the stock and replacement were both 15mm for me.

You may have bought the wrong bearing.

Dayco; Part# 89255

that's the part number for the idler pulley, this is the whole assembly so you don't have to go meddling with the bearing.

Good thread. Agreed that the replacement bearing I got from Napa for about $5 was same exact size as the original in the pulley. Best thing to do is spray some wd-40 onto the bearing and if the noise goes away, you have your problem. I would see if it is the bearing and if it is replace it. If you need to end up changing the entire tensioner, then you're down $5. But if it solves your chirping problem, then you saved a lot more. I replaced the bearing in my SC3 and the chirping went away.

Thanks again, you're excellent researcher. Cheers.
