Default heater valve

the 93sc400 I bought doesn't blow hot air when I set the thermostat to hot. the service records accessed from the lexus database says that a valve of some sort needs to be replaced. has anyone had this prob and know how to fix?

thanks!

Did you try to put the thermostat on MAX hot and make sure the AC light isnt on. You'll get REALLY hot air if the AC isnt on and just the fan is blowing with it on max hot. If you havent tried that try it and leave it on for a little bit and see if it works. If not than you may need to get it fixed but I dont know how to fix the heater problems I could have helped with AC though.

I believe the SC400 is setup identical to the SC300, in which case there is a vavle where the coolant enters the heater core at the firewall. This valve will only allow coolant to enter the heater core when you want heat. If it is malfunctioning, then no warm coolant will be entering your heater core, hence no heat.

Default Thank you!

Thanks to each of you for your input.

Jimmit, I did the test w/ AC off. Thanks for your input. I'm on an R12 system so if you have any cans of r12 you're looking to get rid of let me know.

Clint, thanks for your input. I live in Austin too. I've actually visited that rod rod shop on handcock. I think the guy there said your motor blew up 5 pistons or something??? Man, when I was there, an older fellow from houston had trailered his supra to get some work done. wow, what a BAD car. I bet it's cool sitting on 650+ rwhp.

london Bill, thanks for the input on the gizmo you showed me. I think that's the prob. I shall rectify.

Did the valve fix the problem, and if so, can someone post a pic of where this valve is located?

Chris
Do a search using "heater" or "heater valve" and you will find a post with pics of this unit.
