Default Check engine light

Well i took my car to the mechanic and he was in a rush but did the quick text and he told me the numbers that came up were 71 and 2 i think. he said its emissions so something like the egr valve? he said i can still drive it , but i assume with all the laws in california, anything emissions will keep it from passing smog. so my question is, if its those codes, is it egr valve and does that i mean i only have to replace that or is that different things along with those codes? thanks

well first off there is no code 2, so go recheck that. 71 is egr system circuit fault. Read this link
