leaking R154

leaking R154
So I thought the leak was coming from the output shaft seal (which it still might be), but I took out the center console this weekend to inspect the shift boot as a lot of heat/smell was coming from there....
It wasn't bolted down at all, hence the heat .
Upon further inspection I noticed there appeared to be oil on the top of the trans/shifter housing and the little plate that has the 4 10mm bolts on it was pretty beat up looking.
This isn't my picture, but you can see the part here at the base of the shifter:
Is there supposed to be a seal between that plate and the housing? I took it off, cleaned it up and threw some grey RTV on it, hoping for the best. After cleaning the trans off I'll drive the car around a good bit today and reinspect this evening.

Yes Jordan there is a rubber seal that goes between the shifter housing and the trans, use a small amount of RTV on it.
I don't know why the Mk3 R154s and first Gen Soarer never came with a breather, it's weird.

Ok let's try this again the shifter housing where the shifter bolts to the trans has a small gasket , it doesnt really seal the shifter.
Jordan what R154 do you have? Mk3 /1Gen Soarer or Chaser , the mk3 r154 breath through the shifter where the 2Gen Soarer and Chaser have a built in breather on top of the trans right on the shifter housing.

With all the R154 rear seal issues, I still wonder if these things are leaking on the dyno. I bet they don't. My hypothesis is that higher torque causes minor output flex, but that in itself is not causing the leak. I think that the high torque plus heavy Gs during accel are allowing the oil to leak past the seal. I doubt a breather will fix the issue, but some revised drainback paths, custom oil slinger(s), modifying the pass-through port at the bottom of the case may be the answer. (Or a combination of some or all of the above )

So im having the same problem and wondering if any of these solutions have worked?
I have had 2 different extended shifter housings and 2 different transmissions both leak BAD!
while breaking in my engine and around 10-14psi it was great! no leaks.
But i turned it up to around 20-22psi and sure enough after a hard pull, seems to get worse the higher the gear. Seems to be coming from inside the rubber boot on the shifter.... its like a frickin waterfall! got under my car and everything is soaked!
Ive spent hours and hours searching what is causing this, do i add a vent? make some kind of deflector for inside the trans? ive rtv'd everything and lost about all the hair on my head..... any sugestion i will try and report back! thanks for any help and sorry for the long rant.

I've never the mk3 r154 installed in my car , all the oil leak issue i had was on the Chaser R154 mine wasn't blowing out of the shifter housing but from the tailshaft .
I'll talk to my friend to see what he can do...maybe do/look into what "Stockhatch" said.

I wish one of you guys with a leaker would put the car on a dyno and see if it still leaks. If its a frothing/windage/vent issue, it will leak on the dyno. If its a shaft deflection/g-related pooling issue, it probably wont.
