Thats a good question, but I would think it has something to do with the large amount that would need to be removed, and the fact that the bell housing on the 350z trans is not removable. EDIT the bellhousing is removable.
You would have to mill it down attached to the trans which may be an issue not really sure.

Question, I just measured from the edge of the block to the top of my W58 shifter and it's 30". Measured the 350z with the adapter plate, and its just under 39". The examples in this pic seem like it would place it around 35" or so. What did you do exactly to deal with that?
Thanks for that pic. I suppose I"ll cross that road later. Picked up one of those billet shortened brackets.
Got it off ebay. The day after I ordered it, I found out the guy selling these swap kits would have just modified the stock bracket for half the price. Oh well.
