Default Reset ECU

Should I reset my ECU after I replace the O2 sensors? How long should I leave the negative terminal of the battery disconnected to be sure the reset took?

OK Thanx. For some reason I remember hearing some time ago that it takes several hours. That really didn't make sense to me though.

I just disconnected the ECU overnight and after the second fill up my fuel mileage improved by 1.2 MPH. Pretty significant when my norm is 17.5 MPH in the city and I was only getting 16.3 MPH before the ECU reset. I would highly recommend a ECU reset every so often.

My understanding was that I could reset the ECU by simply pulling the EFI fuse for a few minutes, and this helps save seat/side mirror/steering wheel/radio settings. Seemed to work for me after O2 sensor change recently, though I have since had to disconnect the battery terminals for cleaning anyway.

I read on my 96' Taco forum that you should disconnect the negative cable instead of the fuse because of some capacitor discharge situation. Maybe this only applied to my Taco, but I did the fuse AND the cable to be sure. I also cleaned my terminals while I was at it.
