Default AC poopy-ed the bed, and it's summer in las vegas

My AC started turning off maybe 3-4 seconds after it is turned on, with the AC button light flashing.

Exactly what it does is

you turn on the AC,
it throws the RPMs up a tiny bit, as if the compressor is engaging,
you can almost feel the air getting cold,
the AC light starts flashing, the air keeps blowing, but normal temperature, not cold
the engine then sounds like the compressor is not engaged

I ran the climate control self-diagnosis by pushing the auto and recirculate while turning the ignition to on, and it gives me a code 00, which is normal

I took it to my friend's shop and borrowed their "AC machine" I sucked the refridgerant out, checked for leaks, no leaks, refilled it.

It does exactly the same thing after recharging it.

Any ideas? I was thinking maybe the compressor is bad, but I didn't thinka bad compressor would even turn on like this one does. I also thought it could be a valve, but wouldn't the AC ECU pick up that as a code?

Can you see the compressor clutch moving? That should point us in the right direction for further diagnosis.

I thought the light blinks when there is any kind of error. That's why I ran the auto-diagnostic on the climate control.

Are you telling me the light only blinks when the compressor fails?

I'm a tard. What does the compressor clutch look like, how do I find it, and what does it look like when it is moving? lol

In all seriousness, I have no idea. I only know the AC compressor is low on the drivers side of the front of the engine, as that's where I hooked up one of the hoses to empty/fill the refridgerant.

If there is no leak, I would guess refrigerant pressure sensor might b taking $h/t??
On newer cars, if the pressure sensor does not see proper pressure, it will not engage compressor clutch prevents from breaking down if it were to run without refrigerant and oil.

Probably throwing one pressure may b lot cheaper than a compressor

One of my friends suggested that too. Oddly enough it doesn't look like that throws a code on the diagnostic. Is there any way to check it? I'll look into pricing for one in the AM

Mine's been doing the same thing. I haven't taken the time to diagnose it yet though. My guess is that it's either a bad compressor, or a bad magnetic clutch relay. Try swapping your relay out with somebody elses.

Quick way to check if you have another car with properly running ac,

With engine running with ac

1. Do not unplug sensor. Tap into wires.

2. Take volt meter measure value across the 2 lines on both cars.
The car with good running ac is the reference

I the voltage signal is way off from the car with good running ac, then I would try ac pressure sensor.

turn on the ac and add 12 directly to your comp and if the clutch kicks in (it on the front of the compressor) then you have an issue with pressure of the ac system, pressure switch, or a pwr relay for your ac. you can test your pressure switch by jumping it with a paper clip and if that kicks your clutch over then your either your pressure switch is bad or low freon pressure.
make sure you try to spin your comp clutch with your hand first though, the clutch should move freely. most bad comp clutches will lock up and not allow you to move it much of not at all. gl

Replaced the MC relay in mine and it made no difference. When I engage the A/C, the inner wheel of the compressor spins very slowly, then disengages, and the A/C light blinks. I'm pretty sure it's the compressor seizing up.

mine also blinks.... sometimes that is. it does blow cold air, but not cold enough so i keep it on low that way the air is cold bc if its on high it wont be too cold. anyways it takes a while sometimes i go thru the whole day without blinking... but i think its blinking bc i'm low on freon so ill find out for sure when i fill up with freon. on the bright side i have a spare compressor . let me know if you need it..
