My own sc4 BFI version, not done though.
Well I was getting around to doing my bfi when a friend stopped by and ended up talking for a couple of hours so I never even started the bfi but then noticed this. I could flip the snorkel upside down and it seems like it would suck in more air instead of where it is currently at. I flipped it, cut off one of the tabs and it went right in, i then bent a plastic wall so it could suck in air from the side grill AND it can suck in air from the center area by the radiator. I still would do the other bfi witj cutting the holes and such, but thatll be nex time. What do you guys think? Bad idea? It seems low enough to get some fresh air, but high enough to.not get drenched when it rains. Any reason why I should just flip it back to normal?

Adding the filter itself without any protection allows the increase of more hot air in the intake than the original enclosed version. this is what i have always read by other forums and members. i like the idea of the snorkel upside than the open air filter.

thats pretty creative. pretty soon here I will be making a 4" hole on the passenger side so I can just go down into the fender area with a 4" pipe and have the filter down there. I have only seen a few people do it though but you get some cool temps. If you ever drive your SC in more than 2 feet of standing water it may not be a good idea though.

Yeah just gotta add tabs or something because its holding itself up haha well the headlight helps a bit too.
Will be cutting the holes above and making a little box to seal it off for cold air only

oh yes reset the ecu, but it may feel slower for a couple drives. once the ecu relearns the fuel adjustments, its should feel noticeably stronger on the top end with adding more cold air.
Its not common in the Supra/SC world, but I have only ever seen a supra with it and it looked built for business. If you pull off the airbox, and then look under the fender where it used to be, you will notice there is a whole lot of space to pick up air that never touches the engine bay (I would imagine its at least 20 degrees cooler than the bay most of the time).
The filter can still be several feet off the ground if you mount it right so I dont think water will be a problem unless you drive into a large body of water.
The look is also really nice, with a FFIM, you just have 2 large pipes going down symmetrically on both sides of the car into the fender.
my charge pipe runs on the bottom by the alternator so you don't see that one just the intake on passenger side and the cold pipe on the drivers side.
There are like 2 threads on it @ SF. I know im talking about turbo cars, but its the same for an N/A you will just be using a 3" pipe and filter instead of a 4-5"

pic from the first thread, there are more pics in those links. I would try and mount it a bit higher though myself.
