K&n Intake Kills Gas!!!!
#16
That was after changing all fluids to Mobil, removing the snorkle, changing plugs, and on a 75 degree day with no AC. There was a big thread on this a while back. Several people have breached the 400 per tank mark. Just keep your foot out of it.
BTW, I have a 5 speed. That helps.

Yes..this K&N topic has been discussed in the LS forum..
I tried a K&N on and off for about 6 months in my 90LS and noticed a drop in power (had it dyno tested) and lowered gas mileage.
The K&n cone filter took away 7 HP and 10trq. My mileage dropped by about 50 miles.

Ok I think who ever is getting 320+ with an SC4 is either driving on the freeway or doesn’t revs above 4000 RPM. I normally get 250-290 but I think it’s because I floor the dam thing too much, and most of my driving is done in the city. But I remember once on the way to San Francisco I managed to get 410 but that was all freeway driving and I went a steady 65-70 and only occasionally hit 100+. So if you guys know of a way I can improve my gas mileage please tell me cuz mine seems pretty bad compared to yours. Oh yea I have an air-intake with a cold air box. But I heard that the air-intake would help my MPG not hurt it. Any more info would be helpful. Thanks

This must vary car to car then? I was almost sure that I had seen the K&N dynos right off the bat were able to add a bit of horsepower, somewhere around 7-8? ...Maybe it was just a gimmick? Can anybody confirm this on an SC? Out of curiosity though Lvangundy, was the filter you used a new (or recently cleaned) filter or had it been in use for a while? I did read that you have to continue cleaning the K&N at regular intervals in order to keep the gains...

Highway miles
I used to average 400-448 on the freeway and 300-360 in the city w/moderate to aggressive driving. This was during the summer and had the AC on at all times. At that time, my only mods consisted of a KN w/adapter no heatshield and custom exhaust.
The car was a 92 sc4 w/155k on it.
My current SC4 has 130k and this time all stock and averages the same mpg.

perfect i fall right smack in the middle at an average of 390 miles per tank....i also have a very good combination of city and freeway about 50/50 .....so im still betting that most SC400's are gonna get about 380 to 400 miles per tank....driving normal that is!

ok i just got my light orange light to come on this weekend...i was at about 374 miles when it first started blinking i drove another 25 miles on it so when i filled up it was at 399 miles. This is the first time i had seen the light come on..i usually fill up at about 380 anyway.
Im not sure how you guys drive but im at 80 on the freeway almost all of the time and i hit 100 twice a week.
