Default aem wideband install help

hey guys, so just installed my wideband and got it to light up. I put power to the cig lighter and ground near the ecu.

anyways when i start the car the wideband flashes around counts to 9 and then all it displays is

"- - -" no readings nothing.

anyone know what i might have done wrong? i have it installed with a brand new bosch sensor the same one aem uses.

Try grounding it at a different location.

It should work , its only power and ground.

Are you sure it's plugged in at the sensor?

yeah, the gauge itself lights up and does a bunch of stuff but doesnt actually feed me any a/f ratio.

anywhere you suggest as far as a good grounding point? its just grounded to one of the ecu bolts right now.

Try grounding it somewhere else, messing with grounds and the ecu doesnt sound like a good idea. Maybe drill an independent hole for it?

No not ground at the ecu but ground around the ecu area you have a couple of bolts and studs there.

so i messed with it for about an hour, moved the ground to a few different places and each time the gauge starts up and does its startup dance but no readings after that just ---

off to the tuner at 9:30pm tonight and ill just pay him to hook up a wideband and well see if this thing has safe a/f ratios.

That sucks man. Has to be something simple. Did you buy it new or used? have you checked the AEM website for further info? Mine worked like magic. Is the sensor getting hot?

Bad sensor. I don't care if it's new or not. I've had that same problem with AEM's O2 sensors, oil PSI sensors, and Water temp sensors. Right out of the box they were bad. AEM covered them under warranty. just call them.

Sensor ground should always be grounded on the engine, not the chassis. Wideband has a main power supply to heat the unit up, so you should have a fuse and a relay hooked up to it.

By the way, you should mention brand and model of your Wideband.

It could be a bad sensor as this is what they will sometimes do when they go bad, Is it new or used?

you can mount it pretty close to the turbo, Mines mounted in the first turn and it reads great for me, its probably about a foot away.
what downpipe are you using, most of them come with a spot or 2 on it for the sensors.
