hey i have a '92 sc300 5-speed with only 83,000 miles on it. when i shift (especially from 1st to 2nd), i feel a little clunk going into gear. the higher the rpm the bigger the feel & vice versa. is this due to low tranny fluid, or the ever fun syncro's. i did notice a small oily spot around tranny like a possible leak or old leak. how do i check tranny fluid, where is the fill hole?

While you're under the car, I'd flush the differential fluid as well. Drain plug is the bottom one. It's a magnetic 8 or 10mm allen head bolt. Fill plug is just above it.

Next time, I'd lurk around in the supraforums classifieds looking for deals on clutches, flywheels, tranny mounts etc. Unfortunately, a *good* 6-speed with *all* the parts is going to cost you $$$. Additionally, the 6-speed LSD requires a new rear axel because the pumpkin is narrower than the 5-speed/automatic differential. Consequently, I went with the TT automatic LSD.

Is there much interest in used 6 speeds? I believe I know a guy who can get them from Japan (I am in Australia). What sort of prices do they go for? If it covers costs, I'd be happy to help...

the clunk could mean not enough fluides for torgueconverter or your tranny is going. mine made the same sound before the tranny went on me. mine only made the sound when i shift from park to drive.

Soaringhigh: You're talking about an automatic, he's got a 5 spd.....a few differences.....
I have the weird clunk you speak of when shifting from 1st to 2nd and I'm not gonna wait to find out what it is.
I'm doing a full flush today. =)
