Default Should my shifter sit like this? (soarer r154)

In the first picture it seems like my shifter may be sitting too low? I don't know if that goldish piece is suppose to pivot that far down, I figured it was suppose to sit a little straighter, and make my shifter sit a little higher. It seems almost as if I'm missing a piece, becuase I have a little bit of up and down movement on my shifter. I can pull my shifter vertically about half an inch.

Second picture is the shifter assembly on my car. Am I missing something?

Any help is appreciated,

Lee

your shifter is about a half inch too low! needs to be level when not in gear.

Yes bushings are intact. Looks like I'm missing something in that shifter assembly pictured on the bottom. Might have to make my own bushing for it.

im looking at it again and two more questions just popped in my head...

1) has that tripod been repaired at some point? looks like there is some welding work done on one of the arms in the first pic

2) is that an aftermarket shifter?

on aftermarket shifters, they come with a couple extra plate that sits on top of the stock plate in a certain way. you may have missed one especially if you can lift it up that is not a good sign.

1. Yes I repaired the tripod because it snapped on both sides. Which I believe was caused by the shifter having all that play.

2. Yes, I believe it is an aftermarket shifter.

Yes it is an aftermarket shifter, and it doesn't have any extra plates in it. I bought the car with the shifter already on it. Luckily I was able to find a bushing made for tractors that fit the hole for the shifter perfectly. I Just need to cut it and stick it in.
