I actually read that on here and on SF. If this one doesn't hold up, that will be my next step. I appreciate all the comments...

Huh. I just bought a factory MKIII Turbo rear shaft seal for my swap. I wish I'd known to buy a W58 shaft seal. Next time around.

Mark,

My friend and I tried this 4years ago, W58 seal, Installed 2breather on the Trans so it can vent and still the same problem.
This trans was bought brand new from Toyota before it was discontinued.

It will either leak from the tailshaft or the shifter housing lol.

The only 'fix' that worked for me to prevent oil from dripping out the rear seal and burning off the exhaust?

I rerouted the exhaust to cross into the midline further back Boom. No more burning oil! Just add more trans oil with every oil change and pray the trans oil level doesn't go low enough to break something.

Well after I drove the car from Huntsville to Birmingham there were no leaks as far as I could tell. I will keep an eye on it closely in the future. The new seal might have been the needed part for a temp fix. Who knows? There was very little black residue on rear bumper crom the 120 mile trip. Prolly just the residual coming off the exhaust I couldnt clean or get to with the pressure washer. I just dont understand why the tranny started leaking until after I removed it. I am wondering now if I should any more fluid or just keep it as is. I dont want to add too much then have to clean the undercarriage off from the excess bleeding or leaking out.

Should I leave it or add more and test it? It shifted fine to me as it always did. I am concerned with the amount I lost out of it tho. Could be a quart low.

Since no one answered my question, I have left it alone. I have had absolutely ZERO leaks. Driven it over 500 miles now, and it is good. NO grinding, no funny shifting, etc. Still is notchy, but normal feeling.
