Timing belt 6 years?

Timing Belt
The guy that told me that has a 99 SC400 and he just replaced his belt at 110,000 miles.
It had been done previously at 60,000. he told me max 6 years.
I've got a 99 GS400 and it has been probably six years since it was changed.
Just got me wondering
I'm also thinking about buying his 99 SC400 next week is the reason I'm getting on this forum.
Thanks

I think that rule is for Hyundai's and any other cheap "luxury" claiming cars. Lol Joke
But really though, when they say recommended, it doesn't necessarily mean those parts go bad at that point of time or mileage. Companies just say that so they can guarantee optimum or maximum performance of the vehicle or the said parts. But the general rule is always checking the parts if they are still working or so. You can check timing belt components simply by looking at them and checking for any unusual wear or appearance or sound. But with the SC's or Lexus I general, even Toyota, these parts last for a very long time, sometimes even past, and I've even seen twice as the recommended mileage to perform the said maintenance.
But as per manual, timing belt and all those good stuff should be replaced at 80,000 miles.

95-97 sc400's are also inteference not just the vvti's. they did a small bump in compression that made them interference and also changed the rods and this was on the non-vvti motors. 92-94 is basically the only non inteference 1uz and also has the beefier rods so If you are building one don't pickup a 95+ with a broken timing belt, it won't be all that fun.
on the 2jz they only became interference with vvti.
And every toyota motor has a timing belt inspection area where you can turn the crank around and inspect the entire belt.
they do tend to crack with age but 6 years is very conservative.
