I could see you maybe getting high 20s or up to 30 but not what you are claiming. And uhhh... E15 in your gas is actually going to make your mileage worse than ethanol-free gas would.

I got 35mpg once in my 93. Well i drove it about 18 miles, then 2 tires blew and i had it towed the rest of the way home. Ok more like 40mpg...boom! but i doubt the 98 sc400 gearing is enough to make that possible. I could believe 27ish but 34...nope!

I mean **** that's better than what my stock B18 Civic Hatch gets. I can squeeze about 32mpg if I'm going 65-70ish. Usually it's 29 or so at 85-ish. This is a 2144lb car lol.

I thought only the automatic 2JZ-FSE direct injection engines got this kind of fuel economy from a 3500lb+ RWD Toyota.

Thanks everyone for all the info. I was not aware that the rear end was different on the newer models... maybe that explains my mileage. At 85 mph, I'm turning around 2,300 rpm. I consistently get around 34-36 mpg at 80-85 mph, but I only get about 28 mpg at 60 mph.

Filled tank at 47,779 miles. Stopped for gas again at 48,139 miles, filled it all the way, took 9.88 gallons. That's 360 miles on 9.88 gallons, or 36.44 mpg.

edit** nevermind I figured out what you were saying, it took 9.88 to refill it not that your tank is 9.88.
I know those cars are supossed to get good gas mileage at faster speeds but that seems a bit above average.

OP needs more mpg samples. In all honesty, I'd like to know the next mpg for the next 10 tanks and if the said 35+ mpg can be sustained and repeatable.

Run a full tank all the way to empty and then calculate your mileage. I always felt that it wasn't as accurate when you "top off" like that.

This is the quote from the Lexus brochure on the SC's :
SC 400: Actual mileage will vary with options, driving conditions, driving
habits and vehicle's condition. Results reported to EPA indicate that the
majority of vehicles with these estimates will achieve between 15 and 21
mpg in the city and between 21 and 29 mpg on the highway.
(See www.fueleconomy.gov.)
Its quite possible to calculate inaccurate numbers cuz topping off what you use, divide gallon into the miles driven can get a higher number when just "topping off". Its not totally accurate. Drive a whole tank, then fill up and divide by the gallons filled from empty is most accurate which is known as "Tank Avg".

I'm not saying OP is wrong, its possible to calculate those high numbers, one time i calculated 30.5 mpg "Topping off" in my GS400 going 85mph too but later on a 2nd tank did the "Tank Avg" and was getting 27.5mpg 95% hwy.

Its Possible to calculate incorrectly, but most uncertainly its not the actual MPG.. A 4.0 V8 going 85+ to get better MPG than a Camry 4cyl.. Most people would laugh in your face.

Maybe the pump clicked off early, like they often try to do on our cars.
