A tip for those who are having this problem. Check list thats sure to get it solved

1: Gas cap, if its old. Spend the 7$
2: charcoal canister, check the two lines on it, and the two lines that go under the intake tubing under the MAF, mine poped off that little solenoid,
3: Vent tube in trunk.
4: Check the screws on the caps on tank. 4 caps. Each have 8mm/Philips head bolts. ALL of mine were loose. 1/4 ratchet and 8mm socket works perfect. Just snug them. Once pressure builds in tank it pushes the fumes past the seals if there loose.

Harder/More time consuming,
5: Fuel lines in engine bay, may need a sniffer
6: Leaky injectors or rail.
7: o2 sensors, have them checked and/or replaced.

Now, mine only got bad at half tank or more, or after driving on hot day. After reconnecting the lines in engine bay, and snugging up screws, all fixed. Price? 0$, time? 15Mins.

Fuel fumes can pretty much be anything, on the SC at least. Could be from a vacuum hose that isn't on, to the ECU taking a dump. Running rich could be a number of things.

Well, I posted because I had to read 11 different threads to get all those search points. and very few of them posted if they fixed it. So I figured it would be a good starting point for some. I also encourage others who have and fixed there fume issue here for others. It seems to be a bit of an issue on our SC's

In that case, my sc was fixed by o2 sensors.
