Can I use a W58 Aristo Trans in my sc4?

Thank you Kahn, that was the answer I was looking for... Since I missed out on your w58 I've been looking for a new one, My friend In Cali bought this 2j for his 1gen gs300 and will be using a v160. He said he would let me have it for the cost of shipping. Why does it look different from you old sc3 w58?
Toyota used enclosed housing extensions in their W58's for the SC from '92-'94 and for the R154's in the Soarer from '91-'93. After those model years the tripod design was used across the board for either manual transmission. Supra MKIV NA's all used tripod designs from the start-- exactly the same W58 as you are looking to buy.
You can cut the transmission tunnel or you can go to the trouble of swapping in a Supra 6-speed tunnel for use with that tripod trans. Most people just modify their existing tunnel.
The SC/Soarer manual shift boot location never changed throughout the model cycle, just the way the 5-speed transmissions got the shifter into that spot.

I realized it was you after posting, lol. Glad you found another option.

^^ Exactly. Cali108, even the early W58 I was selling would have required you to cut you trans tunnel because you have an SC400. It also needed a "swan" shifter rather than a straight shifter but I've found the SS V3 short shifter to work perfectly on those older extended W58/R154's. I'm using one right now in my '93 SC300 5-speed with the early style tunnel opening and it's very close to where it should be. Pricey, but it would have been a good shifter option for you prior to your finding this tripod 5-speed.
