manual transmission question
Why does it seem that almost everyone who is doing the 2jz swap into the sc400 is going with the r151 trans? I heard a rumor that they are garbage why not go stick getrag trans aren't the a lot more reliable? I love driving a stick shift car but don't want headaches and also I'm looking looking a more comfortably ride. What the best option for the sc400?

Please do more research before posting stuff like this. What you posted is incorrect, you are highly misinformed.
R154 is a great trans. I ran one in my car for several years. No complaints at all. It is more trans than most people will need, unless they have crazy power goals, then the R154 will need to be rebuilt with MC parts.

OP, a V160 is a very expensive transmission to swap in. Is it superior to the R154 and especially the W58? Absolutely. The R154 (not R151-- that's a truck transmission like the R150 and R150F) is a fantastic and beefy transmission. Replacing the 1st gear thrust washer and bearing retainer plate cures any possible weaknesses up to 700whp and even then you need a good deal of horsepower and torque to test its bone-stock resilience.
The W58 is the weaker manual transmission and even that thing does fine for years with moderate horsepower with a considerate driving and shifting style. For an non-turbo car that's staying non-turbo it is all that's needed and shifts beautifully.
Read up on all three of these manual transmissions to understand which is best for your purposes. A V160 is top dog and great engineering but it was designed as a circuit racing transmission for the Supra to reliably withstand truly massive horsepower and torque and take the car to 180mph or so.
The R154 that came before it was used in every performance RWD 1JZ-GTE Toyota sold in Japan until about 2005. It's far from "crap".

Well I did say I heard a rumor about the R151 and I'm fairly new to this sc400. So I asked a few questions to be sure about things. Didn't intend to be disrespectful or anything just purely wanted to know the truth. And was a little bit tired writing this that's where the confusion came in about the R151 came into play. But thanx for your advice guys I really appreciate it on this adventure of a build I'm going to be taking on.

No offense taken here, hekp88. It's understandable and it's all just hardware in the scheme of life. I should have given you a welcome to the forum in my reply post. It was late for me as well. We tend to encourage searching for topics covered many, many times but many of us are happy to clarify these same topics when the question details and hypotheticals get very specific and/or abstract. We do want folks to understand about these cars if they are interested in them
The best thing to do is search for some of your questions about the platform if you're thinking about modifying it so you can understand where your goals will put you in terms of money invested and time spent to reach them. This is why a lot of us were pointing out that the absolute best manual transmission option isn't necessarily the one that makes the most sense for everyone and actually tends to be a rare thing among SC owners.
There is a lot you can do with the car and it's also a fine vehicle to mostly leave stock. Figure out what your realistic modification and horsepower goals will be and knowledge will start falling into place.
Good luck!

please do a search for 1uz and w58 or r154 or v160.
many run the w58 behind a 1uz with no issues, r154 is even stronger, v160 is the strongest.
for a turbo 2jz making alot of power or a supercharged 1uz, the w58 becomes questionable strength wise and r154 is recommended at the least then.
topic covered too many times and the info has been responded to so going to close this thread.
