Default Exhaust question. Did search not enough info.

went to a website. www.xerd.com. they have a full dual catback exhaust 70mm mandrel bent for the sc3/400 cars. price = $699. I think its an excellent price. I can't seem to get in touch with them. Anyone buy anything from theses guys? Does anyone have this exhaust installed on their car?

thanks

Ah.... my bad... They have two different systems. I did not notice the all stainless one. I think I would get the reg. steel one anyway. $599 is not too bad, but what do they consider "cat-back"?? Is that the portion from the front CAT or just the rear resonator that they call a CAT....

The third CAT is a CAT from '96 on, at least on a SC4 - Don't know about the SC3.

I was able to get in touch with someone with knowledge of the system. They are in PST and I'm EST so I'll phone them up 1pm EST to check the stuff out and I will post results here.

Here are the questions I will ask

Cat back is from front cats or middle resonator?
Does it use X pipe or H pipe?
muffler is straight through or offset?
How big of a tip?
does it come with silencer?
Do they have high-flow cats to go with the system?
Has the system been dynoed?
If it has been dynoed how much gain can we expect?
In terms of sound. is it 2x 3x 4x 5x the noise level of the factory system?

if you guys want me to ask any other questions besides this let me know before 1pm EST so I can ask them.

Thank you.

I've got the 411 on the XERD catback.

Q:Cat back is from front cats or middle resonator?
A: its from middle resonator.

Qoes it use X pipe or H pipe?
A:Neither its Y pipe that comes out from the factory resonator

Q:muffler is straight through or offset?
A:straight through

Q:How big of a tip?
A: 4 1/2"

Q:does it come with silencer?
A: Yes

Qo they have high-flow cats to go with the system?
A:no

Q:Has the system been dynoed?
A:N/A

Q:If it has been dynoed how much gain can we expect?
A:N/A

Q:In terms of sound. is it 2x 3x 4x 5x the noise level of the factory system?
A: with silencer its quiet as stock without don't know.

They are all made in japan.

I won't be buying it since its not a cat-back from the front cats..

really? ive heard that its a center resonator, but this isn't the first time ive heard it called a cat - when i took my car into the shop to have the resonators removed, they said they couldnt take out the center resonator cuz it was a cat, even tho i was sure it was a resonator. my car is an obd-ii model, 1996. can anybody else confirm that from 96+ they changed that center resonator to a cat?

In the parts list I have, it's listed as "Pipe, Front Exhaust". It's the resonator(?) with a length of pipe going up to the catalytic converter. The 92-95 models have listings with California Emissions (part #17450-46160 @ $716.70) and without (part #17450-46010 @ $207.72), while the 96 and up just list one part number (17410-46330 @ $890.25). At that price, it sure sounds like a cat to me!

By way of comparison, the mufflers are listed as $226.19 each.

BTW - The SC400 has a similar listing arrangement.

Hope this helps...

yea that must be a cat then. thanks for the info, i was uncertain until now about whether or not the shop i took my car to for my exhaust system mistook that as a cat when it was really a resonator. oh well, sucks for me i guess. does putting in high flow cats help for sound at all (increasing volume)?

So, even if it is a cat, which it seems it is on my 96', is there any reason it can't be removed? I don't remember seeing any o2 sensors in it or after it, but I wasn't looking for them at the time. I know in Cali and other states there are inspections and you get a big fine if you remove cats but they quit inspecting cars here in the twin cities so is there anything stopping me from taking it off?
