I know it bolts up without mods to the tranny tunnel on the '95. I don't know about other year models. Here's what I used to swap mine: http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/clutch/index.html
Cost was $5k plus some change. Here's a breakdown of the cost: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...threadid=65123

i've seen used R154s go for $1500ish... prolly wanna swap in the LSD too at the same time; thats another $500-$750... this is just the big parts... still clutch, flywheel, slave cylinder, etc
i figure $3k after everything and installing it yourself...
prolly closer to 4500 or so if you pay someone else to do it... mechanics charge A LOT to touch transmissions

I wouldn't think that it would be worth the costs unless you are going to be running some big power. Granted I have only had my 5 speed for about a week now, but the gearing seems to be pretty dang nice to me. 1st and 2nd gears are mean, 3rd pulls for awhile, 4th will pull well into the 100's and 5th is a great cruising gear! I have noticed that the gearing kinda sucks right around 55-60mph or so, its too high for 2nd but a little low for 3rd...

Don't get me wrong, I hope to turbo my car within a year or two. But my point was that UNTIL you are running that kind of power, there doesn't seem to be a need in my opinion for the 6 speed swap. I would hate to spend $4-5k so that I have a little bit closer ratio tranny...but still be running 15's in the 1/4 because that's my main mod. For $4-5k there are a LOT of things I would do first, and save the tranny swap for later.

As far as the other comments go, I *completely* understand wanting to spend money on the power plant first. However, I *personally* know of a couple of guys on this forum that have busted many 5-speeds with only 450 at the wheels. (sc300turbo and computerwiz).
As Ebanks has said many times... "cheap now = expensive later".
My goal is to *start* at 500 at the wheels. I know my driveline will hold it.

I guess it is all in how you read it. I could not see why they would charge more for a tranny swap than a engine/tranny swap together. Granted they have the car apart, but they still bolt the thing together afterwards.....
With that said...
Do you have a quote that says otherwise, or are you just adding it up in your head? Thanks

Price: Engine Conversion $10,500.00 including parts and labor. Six Speed Manual Transmission Conversion $5,000.00 Additional, including parts and labor.

Trust me... you will *not* get by at $5k for a 6 speed swap from PHR. They were selling a 6-speed for $3.5k without anything else. Additionally, they want $700 for a DS. Uh... that's $4.2k. What about a TT flywheel, aftermarket pp, clutch disk? Now, you're into about $6k from PHR.

"...For the six speed conversion, you are correct that by the time you buy the transmission, driveline, differential, etc, you will be well over $6000."
I've done the swap myself and did it for a little over $5k, and I even got the 6-speed and LSD for $2900, shipped. That's $5k for parts only; no labor.
More quotes from the same e-mail from Jarrett:
"... We still have one six speed for $3500 if you are interested."
That's $3500 for *only* the six speed and nothing else.
I *never* post anything on a forum without direct knowledge or a good reference backing it up. In this case, I have direct dealings with PHR, and Jarrett's own statements saying that the swap is "well over $6000." After doing the swap myself, I'd even go so far to say that a *complete* swap (6-speed, aftermarket pressure plate, TT flywheel, TT flywheel bolts, pilot bearing, throw-out bearing, clutch disk, tranny mount, crossmember support bracket, slave clutch line, driveshaft, LSD, clutch hub, wave washers, snap rings, shift lever retainer, shifter, and Supra rear axle *with* installation) is over $7000 from PHR.
PHR can post anything they want on their web site. I have dealt with them and have no problem questioning their pricing.
In fact, you can forward this thread to "sales@powerhouseracing.com" if you don't believe me. I have all the e-mail we exchanged archived on my laptop.

motorhead,
Sounds good. Maybe they should edit the price on their site. It seems to me like a wording issue to me. They probably really meant that if you did BOTH the swap and the tranny swap at the SAME time then that price is valid.
