Default Lots of TT action - what about a single turbo for the 300?

A whole list of kits for the Supra...

Anyone sporting a single turbo rig using any of the kits from that link? I'm curious how easy the install is (since those are technically Supra kits) and how pleasant the end result is. Thanks!

(I ran a search for single turbo threads or posts, but most are TT-related.)

I believe those are all GTE kits and therefore will not fit an SC. Not sure of the relevance here.

Yes I'm aware of that, hence my question about the kits being able to work at all on our cars. I wanted to know if anyone made it work.

That attitude is just lame - note that I'm referring to the single turbo kits from the link. Supra kits. Not the Toyomoto, not the FMAX.

Forget it.

None of those people got a single turbo conversion kit for a GTE motor to fit on a GE motor. In fact, a few of them have stated in the past that it was not feasible. Did you look at the link? Do you know the difference? I think it is a problem with the runners lining up with the exhaust manifold.

The Last Word with Bean:

The reason GTE kits do not bolt onto GE motors is because the bolt pattern on the exhaust-side of the head is totally different, there is no way to modify the head to fit...

There are THREE things you can do to make it work:

1) You can get a custombuilt or premade exhaust manifold (log or header) and use THAT instead of the manifold in the turbo kits; most turbokit manufacturers will give you a nice price drop if you order the kit without the manifold. I've seen this done before, in fact, some kit manufacterers have a GE manifold option already... Like SP Engineering or PHR (dunno if they still do).

2) You can have a good exhaust shop with a tig welder to chop off the exhaust manifold engine flange; and then weld a flange made for the GE motor. I've seen this done before.

3) You can pull the head and all associated items from a Supra TT and put it on your car. You'll need the intake manifold, coil packs (since the TT head has no distributor), you'll need to rewire some stuff since the TT head has a cam position sensor among other things. The info is out there; and this has been done before.

Happy?

There you go, you southerners are definitely more patient, i'm sure that's the info he needed Bean. Anyway, time to sell that Z man, tired of seeing that in your sig for like two years, turbo time for your Vanilla whip, does that Z have skull fragments embedded in the dash or something? Why hasn't it sold? I'm thinking you don't reeallly wanna sell it, and i've been there before too, but time to decide .....

#1 is what I suspected, and wanted to confirm. I'm glad you mentioned SP in particular. Thanks!

Do you know the difference?
I guess not.

Sorry, I guess it is the inches of ice and general state of emergency here got me riled up stuck at the office. With intermittent internet service and stuff, cold as hell, phone and power down (gotta love back up at the plant). Just waiting for the all clear to go home - no more internet - cables down.

There is an abundance of information. No the gte manifold will not fit on the GE. It is a custom job. F-max, toyomoto, Sound performance, Rollhard, Performance Factory ..........

My bad.

Every new guy asks if any of the kits from that aforeposted link will fit the 2JZ-GE, and concurrently suspects that they will not because of a manifold mismatch only to discover, via Bean, that indeed the manifold is the sticking point because of the exhaust outlets?

Wow, small world.

Martel,

The question usually goes, Title: Hey will this fit? Hey will this work on an SC300? Why won't this go on the SC? Isn't the engine the same? Can I put a GTE manifold on a GE? Are the GE and GTE the same block?

Something like that. You did a better job of posting links and asking a more qualified question.
