I am looking for a setup that will not be too heavy for sure which is why the getrag interests me as they normally have nice action on them. My current 6 puck setup is terribly stiff and is why I want to go to a better trans/setup.
sounds like you will be going forward with it faster than most of us, good luck and keep us posted on it. I think I am going to start collecting parts, man all that time wasted figuring out the 350z shifter.. oh well at least it will help others.

The CD009 is likely a stronger box, but doesn't seem to be a straight forward to install..but if you have the room and desire to install one I am sure you will love it. For me..tunnel size was a huge issue with the CD009..with this transmission it isn't.

I will try to get some comparison measurements/pics with my 7M/R154 bellhousing this weekend, for reference.

If anyone is interested I literally have my mk3 r154 out of my car as well as a ZF 5 speed I've been plotting on installing into one of my cars, just trying to figure out what rear ratio I want to pair up with it. And if you want some pictures and measurements let me know.

So..I pulled out my 7M R154 bellhousing and took some more shots of the three along with some measurements. Now, I don't have the R154 out of the car yet to measure, but Reyke does (thank you!). Here are some more comparison shots/measurements.

My E36 Evo shifter assembly/trans mount also came in. This is the shifter that I was told/read was required to get the shifter placement correct in a E36. Now, I am not sure how it will line up being that I have a 2JZ in there now, but it shouldn't be a big deal to lengthen/shorten it if I have to. I lucked out and was able to find this one used on bimmerforums. I had to buy the trans mount together, but I am not sure I will be able to use it or not.

I will likely be doing a dual shear selector rod (dssr) upgrade once I know what the correct length should be. It will greatly increase the shifter accuracy and feel.

I am new to this forum but I have been following this thread for a couple months now. I have a 1992 SC300 with an automatic transmission but I want to swap to a manual. Thank all of yall for the vast amount of knowledge and research thus far, and I will contribute as much as I can during my project.
As of now, I am thinking about going the route of a 6 speed from a 2008 535i (which I believe should be the gs6-53bz). If I understand everything correctly, I will need an adapter plate for trans to 2jz, custom trans mounts and custom driveshaft aside from the normal auto to manual swap items such as pedals, master cylinder, etc.
What are you guys' opinions or thoughts about this swap in particular?

The collins one is on their site for pre-order already.

It is a bit more expensive than the PMC kit, but you don't need the auto flexplate like you do with the PMC kit.

As for your question about the 08 535i tranmission..not sure honestly. I really wanted to use one of those but they are pricey. I think as long as the pilot bearing is not in the input shaft (like later models) you will be fine. You just need a clutch disc with the correct spline count. It uses a 15mm ID pilot bearing, which is the same as the ZF or Getrag 420g.

I have spoken with Brett over the past week or so and this is what I have concluded so far between our conversations and research I have done:
1) The adapter plate he is making currently is for the gs6-37bz.
2) I have a gs6-53bz (from a 2008 BMW 535i with N54 engine) so an entirely different adapter will be required.
3) The 53 has a bearing inside the end of the input shaft and some small differences regarding the bellhousing as far as bolt holes.
4) The 53 is stronger than the 37, which is why I chose this particular transmission. I don't think the pilot bearing inside the input shaft will be too much of an obstacle to overcome.

I found this transmission for $750. I definitely think this swap is very possible and comparable in price to other swaps that have been done. The things we do just to have a 6 speed lol......
Received transmission a little over a week ago just been busy between work and holidays. I will post some pics of it when I get home from work.

You bought the one from the 08 535? I am anxious to see how it works out!

PMC Kit showed up last week (I think). The parts are very impressive looking! I cannot wait to get this into the car!

wow, that is a good looking kit, that flywheel looks massive and just what is needed. might even cut down on the chatter at idle issues as well when going aftermarket.

I can weigh it when I get it out next, but it is not that heavy. The whole box was only ~8kgs (18lbs) per the shipping label, lol.

I need to get a disc and pressure plate for it, but I am going to rock the R154 for a little bit. I need to drive this thing and we are super close to finishing the wiring on it, even though it would be nice financially to unload the R154 stuff..
