Your hardware looks very impressive! I'm always interested to see pics of different projects.

Brett has a kit already available, so is he going to also offer a solution for the input shaft mounted pilot bearing transmissions?
The bolt pattern looks to be the same of very close to the other BMW transmissions that will bolt up to my PMC plate. The length is a smidgen longer than my 420G getrag.

You are correct about the bolt pattern; it is very close to some of the other BMW transmissions, however, there are some slight differences. I wish I had some more definitive answers to share with the community right now but be patient...I will keep posting updates as this project progresses.

Good deal! I will be anxious to see how this turns out since this transmission in theory is stronger than the E46 M3 box, and I would guess will come down in price much faster than my Getrag since it was much more widely used!

Jesus that pmc kit is awesome, darn, well looks like my R154 and all it's supporting parts are going up for sale, what's funny is between selling the trans, driveshaft, and fly/clutch combo, I could do a straight across swap by a few dollars more or less.
The only thing that's a bit nutty is that bmw transmissions are geared for a really tall rear end. Oh well, still a good trade off imo.

It is very comparable in cost since the R154 is so expensive now..for me it works out to be almost a wash to use the BMW transmission, but that is largely because I bought a 6-speed not the MUCH cheaper 5-speed ZF. Also, I had to have a custom driveshaft made for the R154 anyway, so that cost is basically a wash between the two.
Luckily for me there are literally 20+ gearsets available for the rear end of my BMW, so I can make most any transmission work, lol.

Getrag 420g is the 6 speed found in the E46 M3, and the E39 540i. The only one that will fit it is the one from the M3, the V8 cars use a different bellhousing and input shaft.
The 6 speed ZF (gs6-37bz) is found in the E46 330i and early E60 cars before they switched to the gs6-53bz.
The PMC kit I am told by PMC will work with any gearbox that is used on the following engines:
M50/S50/M52/S52/M54/S54/M57 (M57 is the diesel engine not sold in the US)
This covers the S5D-320 5-speed ZF gearbox out of:
E36 M3/328
E46 328/330 (earlier years)
E39 528/530
This also covers the S6S-420G Getrag 6-speed gearbox from
E46 M3 (not any V8 transmissions!)
This also covers the GS6-37bz ZF 6-speed from
E46 330 (later models)
E60 525/530 early models before they introduced the 535 and switched to the gs6-53bz 6-speed
This also covers the GS5-39dz from
E46 330D
E39 530D
The Gs6-53bz I am not sure if it will work or not. The starter needs to be in this position:

As opposed to this:

The other thing that will immediately tell you it doesn't work is if the transmission is utilizing a pilot bearing that is inside of the end of the input shaft. The PMC kit is designed for crankshaft mounted pilot bearings. Beyond that, I cannot say if the GS6-53bz will work with this kit. One of the other guys in this thread is working with Collins to get his 08 535 (gs6-53bz) tranmission to mate up.
Whew..

wow thanks for that heap of bmw info, thats kind of what I was thinking but wasn't fully sure.
so I guess the last thing to check is if the getrag and zf 6 speeds have the correct pilot bearing setup in the crankshaft to work with the PMC kit. if thats the case I will just get one of those and give it a try.

The GS6-37bz does use a pilot bearing that is mounted in the crankshaft/flywheel, so it should work.
WanganStyle actually posted a lot of good info on the GS6-53bz transmission variants a few pages back, but you can easily tell from the pictures of the transmissions on ebay which ones have the flywheel/crankshaft mounted pilot bearings..the PMC kit might not work with the flywheel mount pilot bearings actually..not sure how to check without having one to test.

Yes, the ABC kit is nice if you want to pay for and use a Tilton Twin disc clutch...which I think is not the case for most of us..
Maximum PSI ran a 420G in their 8 second E36..granted they blew plenty of them up, but Mike (the owner) said they are good for ~800wtq before they start having issues.
My GE is a built short block..but I don't have 800wtq in mind for mine..I would like to see ~800whp, which should produce a safe torque level for my 420G..

To be honest I'm torn in between which one I want to run. I've personally driven a 05 330i 6spd. I love the firm and direct way BMW trans shift (feels like an exotic sports car). I also admire how sensitive their clutches are. To have that would complete everything for my SC.
