Default '92 SC400 Bad TPS?

So about a week ago i was driving my car and it kept stalling. After some diagnosis, me and a couple friends came to the conclusion that i had a bad throttle position sensor. The new one just came in today and after attempting to put it on, we noticed the notches didn't line up the same as on the original. When we had it on the idle kept getting higher and then trying to readjust itself in an endless cycle. We've tried adjusting the idle speed to the point where the screw was almost entirely out. Could Amazon have sent me the wrong one? Or does anyone have any idea how to fix this?

Did you order the right one?

I made the same mistake too. Read the part number on the old one.

By the way, I was getting CEL (95 SC) and the error code.

Check Sewell for reasonably priced TPS.

Alright, so it was the right one. the notches on the inside weren't lining up right. it's idling smoothly now. But now whenever the accelerator is pressed it'll get up to about 4000-6000 rpms and lose all power back down to idle. I've tried it at 2 separate adjustments with the same result.

This is a fantastic link on how to properly adjust your TPS. The computer power connector makes an impossible job without the correct tool very easy and inexpensive and best of all precise. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/per...on-issues.html
I assume you pulled codes or some other way verified that the TPS was the problem in the first place.

Friend of mine was having the idle hunting problem. We tried a new TPS but no go. Did the 12v mod but again no go. We pulled his ecu opened it up and the capacitors looked fine. He decided to have it repaired anyway. Found out from the vendor that the capacitors were bad.

I wasnt having idling issues, but I was having to really push on the gas to get the car to accelerate. Replaced the TPS and, voila, problem disappeared. I got mine from a local toyota shop. My car wasn't even throwing codes, but it seems like the 400's has TPS issues as they age.
