oil pan drop with motor in place?

The oil baffle is in the way. plus im sure you spent a pretty fair amount of time trying to get the fipg in the small area between pans were the crossmember is at. I guess I am trying to say that it is possible, but very tight and squirmy trying to do it all under the car, and the amount of security you get for spending the extra 3 hours is worth it.

Took 5 minutes to put the FIPIG on. Steady bead all the way across. If you know how to caulk a bathtub, it will be simple. Was not at all difficult for me. Perhaps you encountered something I didn't. Also had no problems with any baffles. The pan was totally covered by the trash bag---how could anything get in there?

I wonder if we are talking about the same oil pan on the inside there is a plate between the two oil pans. This pan will catch alot of the shavings that fall through, although I do agree that 95% are caught by the clever grease trick. And if you are following the lexus manual it says to completely clean both contact surfaces, I don`t see how anyone can do this in a timely manner with it still on the car. Maybe I am just more petty about the small details.

After having done this and with a spare motor in a parts car, I wouldn't even drop the pan next time. Grease in the hole saw coupled with removing the shavings by hand produced hardly any debris on the plastic bag. Additionally, should any debris make it into the pan, it goes through the filter first before being pumped through the motor. I know it sounds dangerous, but that's how *I'd" do it again.

I actually would have also done it without dropping the pan also. hardly any gets through as long as you keep cleaning the bit and adding grease. But since I had dropped the pan I had no option but to put it back on.

No I wouldn`t drop the pan and not remove it completely! I would, leave the pan and just use grease, and very carefully drill, then run some oil through it. It was just to hard (for me) to try and work with the pan on the car with like 2 inches of space!
