motec or other tuner ecu over factory tt ecu?
Hi all,
I checked in the achives, didn't see anything concrete on this topic. (and see if there's any new developments just in case)
What would be better to use with a GTE engine transplant
(dunno if I should make this a poll or not)
Either a factory TT edu (but would require a ton of wire slpicing)
or an after market edu like motec. electomotive, or what not. (draw back here is, will this be able to replace the factory ecu completely? I don't think it's possible is it? i mean what will control the abs? right?
so I might still need either the stock ecu or still need a TT ecu???)
Then there's the factor with cost.
unit is cheap, but the drafting of the TT ecu to the SC will take a lot of man hour$
so the after market ECU might actually be a cheaper route
not sure how much the motec is, aem is around ~1,200$
I see from the other posts the aem is tough to tune; or easy to make mistakes n melt something
I know there is someone selling directions for the conversion for ~$195 or so.
But has anyone here seen these/or used these first hand.
Does it really show step by step instructions?
if it breaks it down totally then the TT ecu may be the path of least resistence
I'm asking for a friend that might go through with this
(I don't have the money now to do this for my sc300
damn, I never got the recent issue (2 months ago?) of Turbo magazine that had a sc with the gte swap
Was there any good info/pics in that article?
Thanks
Ken

Sounds like you've got good goals, but you've got alot of research to do. The oem TT ECU will be fine for mild applications, and even after that can be piggybacked into the tens. A standalone will of course do so much more, and remove so many limitations, but you'll need to go to the different websites and read up on the advantages of each. Oh, and that Motec is like 8 grand....

I've found that motec pricing varies directly which what options you want. The M48 Pro is $2956. The Wide Band O2 feature is another $700-800, ADL Dash setup is $3700-$4300. The wiring harness is also not included with the ECU price either. I guess depending on how good you are at installtion and tuning you can save some $$$. But if your not save your money and find a damn good motec dealer for everything.

OK.. so a motec with wideband, replacement dash and logging is like 8 grand... the looms are a couple hundred bucks.
I have heard a lot of good reports about the also Australian made Wolf ECU. Retails for about 6 to 7 hundred US Dollars (equiv) over here. I'm strongly considering it. Of course, I've heard a few bad ones too.
