SC400 Transaxle Rebuild
Has anybody here removed and rebuilt their transaxle? Looking at the service manual, it looks pretty straightforward to me. But then, I'm a retired engineer. I was just looking to replace the bearings and seals. I'm starting to get some noise from it, and I can even hear it without my hearing aids. Are there any extraordinary measures, or wierd problems I might encounter?

There are some threads on here for that, also for hub bearings, those usually go first. Seal goes on the hub bearing & lets moisture into the inner race. I've replaced 2 so far @ 200k miles. Differential is still fine.

Thanks for the reply. I am planning a trip with my grandson, and I like to let him drive. I'll ask him if he can identify where the noise may be coming from. I was just into the front end, and I did not notice any runout on the front hubs before I installed the struts and bushings. The bushings on the upper control arms have some play in them, and I have ordered new units complete. From what I can tell, the noise is coming from the rear, that's why I suspected the diff. I would say the hub(s) are a good bet. Thanks again.
