I think your probably talking about what i used to hear...if u lift the car and take a look at the tranny...there will be a black rubber piece around a metal piece thats an L shape going into the tranny to the clutch. hard to explain but u kinda push back that rubber u'll see a white color "FORK" becuase it looks like a 2 bladed fork ---< haha kinda like that...its white and it rattles it shud be fixed with u change the clutch or u can get that part easily from local shop....mine kinda wore off..but comes back here and there...dunno if its the same problem?

i'll try n get pics later...remind me if u want

Omggg zombie thread I know, hate to bring this back from the dead but it's better than starting a new one.

I have this same rattle, and I'm assuming its the clutch throw-out bearing or fork. Or even a cat heat shield as mentioned before ------ can anyone confirm this?

Ok Im bringing this back to see if anyone figured out what the noise was. Mine is a clattering sound near the bell housing area and im currently in the process of removing the transmission to find where the sound is coming from. there is oil living in that area so a seal is likely to be bad but that wouldnt produce the awful noise coming from this thing. sound only happens when Idling and initial clutch pressure. In full lock no noise. we shall see.

If anyone knows the results from the others sounds feel free explain.

I have a very minor rattle/vibration in my 93 SC300 5-speed when decelerating in gear at very low speeds (20mph to 5mph) when the car is still warming up. I've been trying to track it down. I suspect it's in the shifter area but I can't be sure yet. This is with an MKIII R154, however: OEM 1JZ flywheel, OEM 7MGTE clutch disc and PP, factory housing extension, aftermarket shifter, OEM MKIII trans mount (not using Shern's mount solution) on 80's Celica crossmember. It doesn't affect anything and it's mild enough that I'll get to it when I get to it.

I have no issues at idle with any degree of clutch pressure as you do, ems. Yours may have to do with the flywheel or pressure plate (and you have a stock W58 transmission, correct?). How many miles do you have on your clutch and what brand are you using? And is your flywheel OEM or a lightweight aftermarket model?
