Mixing coolants
#16
So I looked in the radiator and it's pink as it should be. A little bit of the coolant overflowed into the overflow bottle. Keep in mind that my friend only added the green crap to the overflow tank. So my idea is to take the overflow bottle off, and just pour that crap out, and add 50/50 toyota mix pink stuff. I believe I have half a gallon in my garage somewhere.
Not that I'm super lazy, but for a proper flush I'd have to buy a container that's relatively shallow to the ground that can hold two gallons of fluid, then jack up the car, unscrew the radiator drain plug, then flush everything out with water, then visit a toyota dealership somewhere and buy two gallons of Toyota premix crap, then fill the tank, flush properly, etc. And where the hell does a happy home owner "discard" old coolant fluid?
My buddy just cost me more money, and about two hours of time

if its just mostly in the overflow then just unbolt that and pour it out and fill it with the right stuff or just water for now since its summer. you just dont want the overflow to go empty or you can get some air in the radiator.
if the radiator is still looking that red/pink color, then just empty the overflow and fill it with water for now, pour some concentrate in there later when you get a chance.

Not my finest hour, but I don't live there anymore, and when recycling toxic chemicals is too difficult for individuals it just ends up being dumped where it's not supposed to. I blame the city for my illegal dumping.

I found a small coolant leak under my car this morning. I haven't gotten around to flushing the radiator and coolant system as of yet. Don't worry, I haven't driven the car in a few weeks. However, it seems like I need a new lower radiator hose. The radiator is only a year or two old with minimal miles on it. I never replaced the hoses and they look trashed. So, it looks like I'll be completing an entire flush after all.
