I think the GM 5300 V8 with a turbo is probably the best bang for the buck, assuming any LSx to SC mounting kits and conversion harnesses can be adapted easily.

If you do plan to shift gears and go with a JZ swap you have total chassis compatibility from Toyota. Based on the two examples you saw, I would recommend the 2JZ from the older GS300. Classic rule of thumb is that ALL 1992-1997 2JZ-GE bottom ends are just as overbuilt as Supra Turbo bottom ends, just with higher compression. Any VVT-i 2JZ-GE's made from 1998-2005 have equally strong blocks and cranks but will need beefier rods and pistons for turbo duty.

Thanks bro. I know to you guys the ins and outs of the 2jz are as second nature as breathing, and these things I don't know about.

the 5300 iron block with a turbo will net you the most bang for the buck power.
a 2jz on the other hand could deliver you more power, but it doesn't come on as early and is more pricey.

I would really enjoy swapping the ISF/RCF engine into a SC.

I was daydreaming about a Vortec 4800 today. Large bore with the shortest stroke made for a factory LS. Long piston dwell at TDC. Good head availability cuz 'Murican.

If the Vortec 5300 was a 2JZ, the Vortec 4800 is the higher revving, shorter stroke little brother 1JZ.
