Lexus OEM wheel that can mount drag radials?
Hey Guys,
Looking to bounce some ideas off you guys to see if anyone has pursued an OEM style wheel with sticky drag radial or slick tires?
I know that the common budget drag pack is the RX7 rear wheels which are 16x8 (which I've considered), but they are pretty obvious and take away from the overall sleeper look of the car. I do like the budget of these and seem to be easy to find used on supraforums. I wonder what they would look like on all 4 tires?
I'm not so much concerned with style, as a factory look with the ability to mount drag radials is more important to me.
The other option is to just say screw the look and have a functional rear tire but I'd like the car to look untouched.
I've considered looking for some factory lexus sc300 16's and having them widened slightly to fit a 275 tire on the rear with a spacer to adjust the wheel outward. Looking to see if anyone has done such a thing here.
EDIT:
I'm thinking maybe these would look nice and offer a decent width on the rear for a 275 tire

tons of people use the n/a mk4 16" wheels for drag tires.
more sidewall = better drag tires and 16" has many options. basically like the rx7 but not as ridiculously light.
They also match the TT fronts decently if you mix and match a set (to clear LS or TT brakes up front), people will be staring at the hugeness of the rear tires on those, not the wheels.
If you aren't doing serious dragging then use the 17 supra tt wheels all around, but for the real thing 16" is the max diameter I would go for the rear.
TT rears are 9.5" wide, N/a mk4 rears are 9" wide.
Basically:
TT front 17x8, rear 17x9.5
N/a front 16x8, rear 16x9

The only thing I don't like about the FD and NA wheels are that they are only 8" wide. There are some good bias ply slicks you can throw on those, but it's a big no-no (so I hear) to run a radial up front with a bias ply in the rear. So you're kind of stuck investing in some skinny's up front as well. That is unless you run a nice drag radial in the back. 16" drag radials in a width that fits nicely on an 8" wide wheel are pretty limited. You can run an MT drag radial. they make a 255/50, 295/50, and 315/45 in 16" sizes. However the only one I'd feel comfortable with on an 8" wide wheel would be the 255's, and that doesn't seem very wide to me.
This is part of the reason I'm still on TT wheels. I want a new wheel setup, but I struggle to find a setup that is right for me. I'd prefer a set of 18's, and then find a matching 15 or 16 that I can throw some tall drag radials on in the back for when I want to play, and I want something more than 8" wide.

you sure about that Halon?? I am positive the mk4 n/a rears are 9" wide. on the supra the n/a is also staggered, its only 8" on the fronts.
so for the rears its only a .5" difference and the extra sidewall allows you to run wider tires so its basically the same.
TT front 17x8, rear 17x9.5
N/a front 16x8, rear 16x9
People throw large sidewall drag radials on the mk4 n/a rears all day long, and it looks real nice. If you go big enough the car gets a wicked rake as well.
apparently this guy says they clear rear tt brakes but I am not 100% sure about that. I think it takes some grinding and some just convert back to n/a brakes which are basically SC brakes.
these are 295/50/16 from this thread.

Never thought about the N/A rears with TT fronts. I'll keep digging and see if I can come across a good buy.
BTW, the NA rears are in fact 16x9"

I could be wrong Ali. Maybe they are 9, if so that's kick ***. I have a pair of FD wheels that I wanted to use for this purpose, but kinda gave up once I dug into the sizes. If N/A's are in fact 9" wide, I think I need to find me a pair and run those 295/50's on them.

they are 9" wide, its hard to find a set cause the mk3 guys like to use them as well.

I know someone local who had a clean set of Supra N/A 16's for something like $200. I think it was "make offer," actually. I bought some parts from him in the past and could check if he's still got them, if anyone seriously wants a set.
