Default MIL CODE 17 CMS No.1

I pulled a CEL and came up with a 17 code, that is not on my diagrams on the factory lexus manual.

I have physically located the sensor and it seems dirt connected but fine otherwise I do not see and immediate malfunction a the moment.

The car seems to have the original wires and I also have to guess the original plugs at the moment. I ordered some wires and I have the cap and rotor ready to go, My question is is any one can help my trouble shoot a code 17 ?

I figure that it is causing the car to miss badly how ever neither the knock sensor nor ignition MIL / CEL code appear.

I will be replacing the ignition system if that does not fix this issue does any one know what may be causing this issue? It is very concerning.

Error Code 17 is suppose to be Camshaft Position Sensor #1 .

A bad CMP can cause an engine to run poorly .

I was at a light today and the car just died. I restarted it and its just been acting really abnormal.

I have rebuilt the ECU with the proper caps. Fixing the ECU allowed me to pull codes prior to fixing the ECU the MIL/CEL would not even come on.

I talked to a technician about running a diagnostic for CODE 17 and he must be honest cause he stated that installing the plugs cap rotor wires would be the first thing to do since I have them purchased already to do that my self.

If I understand right the Cam Position Sensor is located on the underside of the intake manifold drivers side Im guessing cylinder 4. Also I was told that there are sensors in the distributor.

I have a feeling that the timing belt tensioner is giving out and that maybe throwing off the cam gears.

Throw me some ideas fellas; Code 17 CMS Sensor No.#1

Could it be bad ignition parts ?
Bad timing tensioner ?
bad cam sensor ?
bad distributor ?
