^^ 1JZ-GTE VVT-i (the non-drive-by-wire version)

Great engine and there is more aftermarket support for them in the US now compared to a few years ago. On a budget though the early 1JZ-GTE Automatic is a good choice, especially if it's from a Soarer. Then again, so is any version of the 2JZ-GTE.

Any of these engines should have a maintenance overhaul performed first thing though. With the oil pan conversion you should just re-use your original 2JZ-GE pan after drilling out the oil return area and thoroughly cleaning it of any and all shavings. There is a good DIY on how to do that.

That or find another 1992-1997 2JZ-GE and build and NA-T from there.
