Default AT to MT!!! On my sc4

I need some suggestions. I have a 94 sc4 and yesterday coming home as I slam my gas peddle my transmission started acting up. So I'm looking into swapping it into a manual. What would be the cheapest way to go? What parts do I need besides a manual transmission. Or would it be cheaper to rebuild mine? thanks!

Cheapest would be find a used auto and throw it in there for less than 500 if you do it yourself.. Doing a manual swap isn't cheap especially with that motor that was never offered with a manual transmission.

I've seen 100k mile auto trannys for sale here for $100.

It's ironic that auto usually costs more than manual on two otherwise identical new cars, but they go for dirt cheap years later while used and abused M/T's fetch as much as the entire car in many cases. Supply and demand at its finest.

^Yea the market is crazy, once people found out 5 speed SC3's aren't common the price for them has tripled. Guy in my area has a 96 that looks like every body panel on it needs work and every piece of interior needs replacing, along with the engine, but since it's 5 speed he's at $6K...

Our transmissions are so cheap because they can typically go 3-400k miles

And MAN would up the "smiles per gallon" tenfold.

A manual 1UZ is one of the finer things in life......

If you can at all afford it, do it and don't look back!

That said, another auto is way cheaper.....

Lets see, you would need to swap:

Tranny (w58/w55 would be cheapest)
driveshaft
pedals
tranny mount
1uz to w58/w55 flywheel adapter
new clutch (recommended)

I believe these are the big things, there may be other little odds and ends that I'm missing.

I'm sure there's an answer on the forum somewhere, but in my 96 would I get a CEL for doing this swap if I did it legit? I know some people get codes they can't get rid of and never pass inspections again... What about ECU? I've been here forever, but I've been more focused on motorcycles for the last year or so. Starting to really get back into the SC stuff again.

Default Cost

Borrowed item list for Deegee
Tranny (w58/w55 would be cheapest) $900-1400 used ... new ~2500
driveshaft $50 - $150 [local vs shipped]
pedals $350 - $450 if you include the master cylinder.
tranny mount ?
1uz to w58/w55 adapter + flywheel + clutch + slave hydraulics $1200 [multiple options] ... $1600 is most likely
misc ****, boot, oil seal, etc $150

I had set an expectation of about $2000 and have realized that I was way off.

Labor not included.
