Ahhh... why couldn't they go distributorless in 97 instead of 98 so when I eventually get a 97 speed, I don't have to worry about clearance for a turbo!?

you can lose the distributor with the aem.

Also that is definately a photochop, but I don`t know about a gtr dash, I thought those were just three defi link gauges?

Photochop, I confess. I was bored. and yes they're Defi BF gauges. It was a quickie, after looking at it for awhile I'd probably make the cluster symmetrical and centered over the radio a/c stack instead of hugging the instrument cluster. If I had a local guy that could to good vinyl, I'd definitely do this. Being up there, the gauges are very close to line of sight. Boost is one gauge that needs to be in the drivers primary view.

Doing the vinyl is not a problem, but that's a fair amount of 'glass work to fit those meters to the dash like that. Also, IMO, if you have a peak hold/warn boost meter, you can get away with mounting it stealth if that's important to you, which it is to me.

They did go distributorless in '97 but toward the middle of the year. I am not sure but I belive there is a person on this forums who has a VVTi distributorless engine with 5 speed manual.

Didn't know they made even one 5spd VVT-i car, good info Chris, now that would be a rare find. As for the trans, '98-up has the A341E apparently, going to run a couple of coolers and fans, and find a way to increase the line pressure a little, and then decide whether to have Lar build up a Gen2 unit for me, or to swap to a Getrag, either way that will have to wait a bit since I have this wedding to pay for, so i'll turn the EBC off after we dyno it and try to keep it alive for awhile until I take care of that.

Can anyone confirm this (that there were 97 5 speeds with vvti)?

The person who said he has a 5 speed with VVTi motor (also distributorless) is on this forum. I am not sure what his username is... it might be Legend 6??

Chris

PS. He revealed it in one of the posts about VVTi.

Update time - TT brakes went on yesterday, done by gadgetSC and me (okay, he did like all the work ). We used Supra TT front and rear calipers, slotted rotors (PowerStop front, PowerSlot rear) in silver, stainless lines, and EBC Green Stuff pads, then bled the system and filled with Toyota DOT3. I painted the calipers in Black (oem is like a funky greenish) with the Supra lettering done in Silver to match the colour of the car. Night and day difference, like others have said the SC should have come with these brakes from the factory, they seem like just enough for my ultra-New York driving style. Pretty sure I was a cabbie in a past life, but that's a topic for a whole nuther thread, here's some pics guys:
