Default Engine Buzz around 1100 RPM when not warmed up?

I noticed my engine or something in my engine bay is buzzing when drive the car when its still warming up..(idling)...

Unless I completely let it finish idling or warming up the engine will start buzzing at 1100 RPM when I drive...Any clues how to fix this problem?...I don't think it affects proformance but its just annoying..Plus, I don't think its suppose to do that...

I don't know but I recently started having this same problem. I would describe the buzzing sound like a fishing reel being cast out. The noise occurs at about 1500rpm and goes away in about 10-20 seconds of driving and only on a cold start.

I don't know what the noise is all about, but these engines run a bit fast to get the catalysts to warm up and work from a cold start.

i'm not sure about this but on cars like the max and infiniti g35 the engine also makes a weird noise when it's cold. When u start it up it makes a whirring noise. I've read up somewhere that it was the abs doing a self test? Not sure though. =(

Whirling sounds like it could be a squeaky belt?

The thing with my car is that this noise has never occurred in the two years I've owned her. It just recently started happening about three weeks ago. I will get her checked out by my Lex machanic when I head down to LA...

Default buzzing

Drive shaft bearing in Lex is famous for that irritating 1100 to 1500 rpm Buzzzzzzzzzzz. Not dangerous but not good to ignore, sooner or later it will get you and be pole vaulting the car on the freeway.

Check your power steering pump. You could possibly confuse the noise.

Pole vaulting the car on the freeway? I thought you said "not dangerous"???

Mike, the noise does seem to be coming from the passenger side of the car, maybe it is the PSP?

My Lexus mechanic determined it was a crack in the heat shielding behind the right-hand side cat. The cracked heatshield was resonating with against itself. Since that particular heat shield is useless, he just removed it. I have yet to determine if this has solved the problem (since it only occurs on cold starts and I just returned from the dealership in Van Nuys to home a half an hour ago)... Visually, nothing else was wrong with the entire exhaust system, engine, and transmission. I'll report back in a few hours when the car is cooled off.

Great job Rich...The noise seemed come from the engine area tho...Hmmm..I didin't know there was a heat shield on the exhuast system...I'll probably have it checked out and removed like you did...And see what happens from there...

Do you have a diagram of the exhuast system? I need to know where exactly is the heat shield..

GREAT JOB RICH!

This is the piece that fractured on my car. There was only about a 1.5 inch hairline crack on the upper part, which created all the noise....
