Default 1995 SC400 timing belt break due to water pump

I need some help figuring out if my engine is a non-interference or interference. From what I understand the 1995 is an interference, but I'm also hearing that it's not so any input would help. I'm trying to figure out if I should have my mechanic replace the TIming belt and Water pump or just get me a new engine instead.

Welcome to the forum !

I would suggest to read the stickied thread on the main page , it may lead you to answers to many of your questions. Many newbies tend to post or start a thread about issues or problems without doing research. A lot of things have already been covered when it comes to the Lexus SC300 and SC400.

Please do read the following :

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc-...intenance.html

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc-...tart-here.html

btw , help wanted thread goes to the Performance and Maintenance Section . Also people will need more info about what happened to your car or engine before they can even give a good advice if you need to replace your engine.... like how many miles, any other problems , etc .

Good Luck .

The SC400 uses the 1UZ-FE 4.0L engine and is an interference type engine. Therefore, if not replacing the engine I would overhaul the cylinder head and valve train in addition to replacement of timing belt and all timing components including pulleys seals gears belt water pump and tensioner.

According to this forum, most agree that the 92-94 SC400 is non-interference.
According to this forum, there is no concensus as to the 95-97 SC400.
According to this forum, most agree that the 98-00 SC400 is interference.

The issue will remain unresolved until proof is provided to the forum in the form of official literature from Toyota/Lexus or some other sufficient form of evidence. Someone please provide some sort of proof. Thanks.
