SC400 has high pitch noise ......any ideas
Have 92SC 400 with 160K on it and it has been running kinda ruff. Iam thinking that it may be the water pump and or one of the bearings on the pullies. What ever it is has really dragged the motor down. Another thought ...Anyone that has replaced the timing belt or any thing in relation to it such as the waterpump, a/c compressor , p/s pump, bearing. ect.. with some experience replacing give me a heads up on what to expect would be greatly appreciated ... If I decide to have it done what kind of cost should be the norm ..Thanks for any advice... ................................madlooper

sinking ship
I dont think its that bracket but I will check that out. I didnt know that was common. The noise Iam hearing is one of the bearings or tension pullies its coming from the area around the a/c compressor. Iam not sure that it isnt that (a/c compressor) I just cant pinpoint it and I cant explain why runs ruff and shakes at higher rps unless its a combo thing. I may have more then one or two problems here .. Obrother.

i'm not sure what you mean by high pitched noise. if it sounds like a rusted bearing then you probably need a new belt tensioner.
lexus OEM costs 180
dayco 89255 is the part number for 3rd market. according to my mechanic its a very good unit and it also comes with the pulley for about 60bucks at pep-boys. I think pepboys number is 325255. Just call them and ask for a belt tensioner for lexus sc400 1992 and they will tell you. usually a special order item so it will take you 5 days to get them.
good luck.

if it's bearing, go here, https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...threadid=59915
very informative thread.
I still have this high pitch noise even I changed the bearing. (if you want I got some bearing left).
what do you think, If i spray water on the drive belt, the sound disappears for like 10 sec. Does it mean I need to change the belt? any idea?

try changing the belt tensioner itself. There were several issues that was found out after the bearings were changed.
1. The pulley that contained the bearing was still loose (there was 2-3degrees of play on the pulley.
2. The tensioner itself had lost some of the tension thus making the belt looser than factory specs.
3. the pulley itself was slightly warped (did a roll on hard level bench at the shop and it kept leaning to 1 side.
solution was to replace the whole belt tensioner assembly which included the new pulley.
this solved
1. all the squeeky noises
2. no more of the high pitched noise.
3. belt was to the correct tension thus charging the battery better
4. more spark power thus better fuel economy and power and less wear on the ignition system and O2 sensors.
The part number for the belt tensioner is 89255 and make is Dayco.
go to http://www.daycoproducts.com/daycowe...ct_Us?OpenForm
and write them an email asking for local distributor.
Call the distributor and ask for a local shop number that they do business with.
price should be between $43 to $60.
I didn't take picutres but the job is a little involved.
you have to take the iginiton coil mounting bolts, the wire cover, center cover, intake box, intake pipe, tensioner cover and the small pulley to the left of the belt tensioner then remove the 4 bolts holding the tensioner.
installation is the reverse.
good luck.
