Post Supra TT conversion, not swap

Hey there are a lot of people doing the conversions from 2JZ-GE to 2JZ-GTE in the SC300s, but my question is a little different. I want to know if it is possible to convert the 2JZ-GE over using parts off a TT engine (i.e. the pistons, rings, rods, camshaft, cam etc...). I'm not sure if anyone has done this yet, I did a little searching and found people doing the swaps but not conversions. If it is possible, this seems like it would be a MUCH cheaper solution to get on lex400's turbo registry.

There are alot more differences, but sure, you can just swap out the head and manifolds, change the pistons, rods, ecu, harness and whatever, thats whats nice about these cars, you can basically use pretty much every part off a supra (engine) on out cars. Me personally had the choice of turboing my SC or just swapping out the GTE engine. Basically what it broke down to is either taking the time to do a relativly easy swap using motor built by toyota as a turbo engine (oil squirters in the block, etc) with 30k on it from japan, or turboing my aging NA motor with 130k on it. Both will end up costing about the same, but in the long run the newer GTE is a better base if you want to go high horsepower, very high .

well, the reason i asked is cost. i really want turbo, and my thought was i could do that it would save me a lot of cash. however, if you say it costs about the same in the end to just get a 2jz-gte engine and swap it in, that seems like a better choice to me. if i may ask, how much did it cost to get ahold of the gte, and how did you go about it?

Your best bet is to buy a whole front clip like i did, its alot better just to get all the parts you need in one go as opposed to hunting down parts all day long. I paid $6000 for a complete front clip with rear end assembly. After that i figure about another $2000 - $3000 if you do it yourself right, and make sure to pick up Phil's manual, you'd have to be insane to try it without it. So after spending $8000-$9000 you got a 400 hp base, upgradable to 1000hp! Plus you got a 6 speed tranny!
