Cam Gear Alignment
Hi everyone, have a 1jzgte and the engine won't rev past 2xxx rpms. I've been slowly norrowing it down for awhile now and went to double check my timing. I and noticed the timing marks on the cam gears are out when i first installed the cam gears everything was aligned, was trying to norrow down the problem, tested the ecu and different ecu's, tps, etc. I havent tested out the cam sensors though.
I've attached a picture of how it was installed and how its currently installed. Anyone have any input on why they unaligned and what I can do to fix this?

Is that what it looks like when the crank is at zero? That is not normal and its off quite a few teeth.
Since they are both off the same amount, I think it happened on installation.
When installing you need to make sure to line it up when with all the belt slack on the correct side of the tensioner.
then when you install the tensioner you verify the slack is taken out and it is still lined up by rotating the crank a few times by hand and checking it.
another remote possibility is a separated harmonic balancer... the rubber can wear out over time and slip some.
So check the condition of the balancer while you are in there. also make sure you are looking at the right line on the balancer.
