What is this black thing?
I have my lower intake manifold off doing a nitrous install right now. Anyway I was wondering what this was, and if there is anyway to eliminate it.
Thanks sorry for the quality of the pics.

That is the ACIS air tank. Its basically a canister that stores air for the system that adjusts the butterfly valve that sits in the middle of your intake plenum after the throttle body and EGR stuff. Its designed to open/close the butterfly at certain rpm to enhance torque at low RPM.
I haven't found much reason to either keep it in the system or eliminate it. I know alot of the NA-T guys just remove it, especially if you've got a standalone ECU that can't send a signal to operate the valve anyways.

Thanks for the quick reply. If I remove it will it have any effect on the torque? I am looking to free up some space to put the direct port nozzels and lines down there. Is there any other equipment that could be removed that is related to this air tank for weight purposes.

I didn't notice any torque changes, but since I have boost running though there, all bets are off. Its designed to allow cross runner flow to improve torque across the whole rpm band. In N/A applications, I'd leave it alone if I were you. The WOT injector duty maps are expecting X air flow. If you disconnect that thing you could run richer or leaner and lose power in addition to losing the airflow advantages that it provides. Unless you're tuning on a wideband, you may very well end up with significantly worse performance. Weight reductions are minimal, perhaps a pound or two max.

sorry. stupid question....
I know this is a different car but on a DSM if you remove the charcoal canister you have to re-route the hose that comes off it back to the fuel tank........ and i also heard its very very very very very hard to pass inspection without the charcoal canister....
any enlightenment would be much appreicated...
sorry if I seem a little bit off... just had my 9th vodca tonic...... or is it the 19th... nonetheless pretty drunk... but for some reason can't stay off Clublexus..........
and don't worry.... I'm drinking at home....
