This may sound stupid but what is a wideband O2 sensor and what will it do?

when you go to a dyno tuning session they will hook up a wideband O2 reader to your car.

stoich is 14.7:1 and this is where the car achieves maximum efficiency and minimum emissions.

A standard O2 sensor can only read a very narrow range of readings and its not very accurate therefore not efficient enough to fine tune your Air to fuel ratio

basically you can tune your car by looking at the readout from the wideband O2 reader. if you are running 16:1 you are too lean and if you are 10:1 you are too rich.

Basically I got it so I can tune my car using S-AFC and didn't want to pay everytime I install a mod. I can feel my car running way too rich after I put in the 255LPH walbro high-pressure pump. I have a adjustable FPR comming in a week or two so if I had the car tuned to fuel pump only and i went to install a FPR I would have to go back. Then when I put in my exhaust in 2 weeks I will have to go back.

so basically each tuning session that I've gone through takes 1 or 2 hours. so in 4 or 5 sessions I would break even.

Anyone care to explain this in more detail?
I'm sorry for the poor explanation.

good explanation for me at least. Sounds sweet. Wouldn't mind one of those myself.

oh yeah... one more thing.

on S-AFC you have high throttle setting and low throttle setting

on low throttel you set to 14.7:1 or as close to(max efficiency)
high throttle you set to 12.5:1 as as close to (max power)

What version did you get ? I am running old-school version 1.0

There was a guy on SupraForums selling a v1.5 with sensor and only 2 hours of use AND a datalogger for $450 shipped and I wanted it so bad but didn't have the cash. I don't think he ended up selling it yet either.

version 1.5. Display, sensor, main unit assembled, tested, US bench tested brand new =)
bench tested in US to be accurate with proof receipt.

how do you like the version 1.0... does it work well? are you satisfied with it?

$450 for the unit, display, sensor and datalogger is cheap.

I guess datalogger can become handy..... but I heard the recording time is not that long... I prefer pushing 60% throttle with a buddy pushing away at buttons on my S-AFC =) more fun that way.

Dennis...Have you actually been on a local dyno to tune your car? If so, where did you go. I'm looking for a place to do some tuning. Thanks.

I would highly NOT recommend the place I went to get mine tested.

Got on the dyno with a Wideband O2 reader of unknown origin.
didn't even get a dyno readout
no datalogger
2 guys sat there and played around with my S-AFC and the other guy was reading the number out like

14.2.... 14.5... no hand on... 14.3... stuff like that

I told them to put my car down and forget that I was even there.

There is a place in NJ that a bunch of my WRX friends like to go to.. I'll find out and let you know where it is.

I love my v1.0 but I am also one who likes to upgrade like .. NONSTOP ... so if I had the cash, I would jump on the v1.5 and then get v2.0 when I see them available. I am sure you will be happy with your purchase.

The data logger wouldn't do me much good because I have all the datalogging that I need in the AEM EMS.

The 1.5 version has an adjustable stoich point too. Useful for the stock ECU. You can lean out on a trip a little to save gas, You can lean out to clean your plugs, etc. As soon as the ECU goes open loop, this stoich point of course goes out the window so you don't have to worry about leaning out at high throttle settings. With bigger cams, i need to idle a little rich for smoothness, and this accomplishes this perfectly.

I set this richer around town for better response, smoother running, say 13.9:1, then can lean out to around 16.5:1 if I'm wanting to economize. This is essentially what that Honda Civic VX did back in the 1990s to achieve 50mpg. (the host vehicle for our wideband 02 sensor). I'm guessing that an SC400 could probably get 30mpg on the highway by leaning out a little.
