Sorry for being ignorant. You guys are throwing out tranny codes like it ain't no thang...W58, R154, V160/V161 and I was wondering if I could get some clarification? I'm going to take a stab at it just cause I'm ignorant like that .

W58 = us spec sc300 / supra na 5-speed
R154 = soarer 5-speed
V160/V161 = tt supra auto/6-speed

Am I close? Hehe.

W58 is a generic shell for several different trannies

seperate model went into MKIII non-turbos and other various toyotas and was known to be weak...

JZ-bellhousing model that we have has two seperate versions that i know of... one is a 92-93 (possibly 94) and the other is a 95-97 (possibly 94)... which directly coincides with the widening of the tranny tunnel on the chassis...

R154 is used in the MKIII turbo supra...both model (the MA70 and JZA70) JZA70 is obviously the 1jz car that we can't get here (but can do a motorswap for if you're handy)...
and its also available in the Soarer, again prolly the same model as the one in the JZA70 since they both share the 1jz motor....

V160/V161 is the SupraTT 6-speed made by Getrag obviously...

the R154 and V160 both use a reverse clutching method as far as i know... all i know is that its backwards vs a normal clutch system... i think it pushes on the flywheel or something... not 100% on the R154 but very sure....

doing the clutch setup on my Nissan is a piece of cake... but from what i read, the one on the supratt is backwards... you back off the clutch off the flywheel before you remove the tranny off the motor

I've a V160 and a B+M shifter. I don't think it sits low. Here's a picture I posted earlier in the thread about putting gauges in an SC.

6-Speed X-mission sits low than further back than SC 5-speed.
6-speed shifter hits the right side when you put it in Reverse.

We are going to fabricate the new shifter cover as we pimp my ride.

I just did this swap on my SC. My drive shaft is getting redone right now, but that's all I'm waiting on. I ended up using a V161, 6spd pumpkin, and a Carbonetics triple disc. In order to use the 6spd pumpkin, you need the 6spd axles, not just the driver side, but BOTH sides, so I got some axles too. It's an easy swap, and only took a day or so to complete, with the longest part being my wait on the drive shaft fabrication. I can't wait to see how the car drives now!
