Default SC400 Blown alternator fuse

Was driving my SC when gauge cluster and all accessories besides headlights and hazards failed. Got to where I was headed and shut off the car. When I came back car would not try to start and nothing was working. Had a friend bring my meter to me and found a blown alternator fuse. Towed the car back home and did a visual check and it appears there's no loose wires. Would these symptoms lead to a shorted alternator? Continuity test shows the alternator end of the fuse is shorted to ground. Wanted to see others opinions before I bite the bullet and buy a new alt.
