Question doors locking by themselves, alarm setting

weird problem that just started today. was driving to work and my doors locked themselves. fast forward, i go to move my car while at work and the doors are locked (i always leave them open at work). i put the key in the door and the horn starts beeping (factory alarm?). then again when i'm getting in my car after lunch. key in door and horn starts beeping.

i have no factory remote, only the key. there is no aftermarket alarm in the car. have been driving the car for a year and a half and never had this issue. has anyone ever experienced anything like this? i tried to search but i'm not turning up anything.

can you turn it off by inserting the key in the door?

further research (now that the search function is working properly again) may be pointing towards the lock sensor for the cylinder malfunctioning. i came across a post where the guy was having nearly the same issue. i did manage to pull some troubleshooting info from the FSM

I just now noticed this thread. My '95 SC300, stick shift, has the same problem, but only intermittently, and then only after a couple weeks of below freezing temperatures. It never happens in the summer. I don't have any suggestions for fixing the problem, but I'm curious to know whether you ever figured out this problem and can suggest a way to correct it. Thanks for whatever you know.

it was the sensor attached to the lock cylinder (left door). it was a simple continuity test to check it. refer to this thread here- i have added the part numbers for the sensor. they can be found online for around $80 shipped. the dealer wanted $120
