Default Denso cap

I'm in the middle of an annual round or upgrades, 1997 SC300 2JG-GE and after not being able to find a distributor cap I went to the Denso site where they don't indicate one anymore. Could any of the OEM only crowd suggest where to head with this issue?

You prolly won’t, everyone I know and their siblings use Duralast or other brand other than denso for replacement

Yikes... I just read this and checked Densoproducts and Rockauto and neither of them list the Denso distributor cap. You might try a Toyota dealer to see if there is any remaining stock.

That's a very surprising part to be discontinued considering it's part of regular maintenance.

On Rockauto I still see versions from Beck/Arnley, Airtex/Wells and Standard Motor Products. This is kind of eyebrow-raising news actually.

I also don't see the Denso 2JZ-GE plug wire set any longer either. Toyota should still carry the OEM sets (one hopes) but that's also not good.

The best rotor as also always been Denso. I've seen a couple of super cheap varieties over the years that don't compare.

If all of these parts are no longer made by Denso then we'll need to find the best aftermarket examples as the next best alternatives.

The local Lexus dealer where I bought it said no problem ordering one, quoted $34. I don't about any one else but the nearest Toyota dealer can trip all over himself when I mention Lexus, is there a six (Supra) cylinder from 97' that I can just reference and he can get through his catalog to at least start identifying a comp?

If you're looking for cross-compatible parts, nearly everything on the engines themselves are the same year for year. HVAC systems are different between the SC300/400 and Supra MKIV for instance but engine and transmission parts are the same.

For parts on the engines themselves:

1992-1995 SC300 2JZ-GE = 93-95 Supra Non-turbo 2JZ-GE
1996-97 SC300 2JZ-GE = 96-97 Supra Non-turbo 2JZ-GE
1998-2000 SC300 2JZ-GE VVT-i = 1998 (the final model year) Supra Non-Turbo 2JZ-GE VVT-i

So in this way you can go into a Toyota dealer parts counter with your 1997 SC300 and say, "I need a distributor cap for a 1997 Supra Base/non-turbo". etc, etc. and install it in your car. Engine sensors are the same deal. When you get into chassis parts and ECUs then things get more specific to each car.

With CA and Federal emission type differences generally the drivelines of both cars have the same emissions equipment for Federal and California year for year.
