Default Jdm trd lsd 2 way aristo diff diagnosis and maintenance

Hi CL,

I recently purchased an Aristo differential and was told it had a TRD 2 Way mechanical LSD in it. I finally received it and tried to spin it to confirm that both ends would turn the same direction. Just using my hand to spin it I noticed that both sides wouldn't turn at all; I was expecting it to spin by hand freely. Is this happening because its a 2 way mechanical or is there something wrong with it?

On another note, what would you suggest I do to determine its condition before putting it in the car? Would a toyota cert mechanic have access to info to properly diagnose this (being trd)? Oil preference on a TRD diff and any other suggestions would be well appreciated.

Also, does anyone happen to have an installation manual for a trd diff that specifies torque settings (is it different than a Torsen)? If it is similar to a Torsen, anyone have the torque settings for that? I know it's a long shot considering it's discontinued but maybe someone out there has some info on it. This would help me do it myself and save some bucks.

Thanks for your time

Believe you’ll need a diff fluid with a friction modifier in it, or use an additive.

old thread so not sure if fluid options have changed since I had mine years ago

Thanks for that Dave! I will certainly follow that once I get there.
